= AST RESEARCH, INC. TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 1249 7-17-95 = EZ-SCSI CANNOT FIND CARD OR DRIVER WILL NOT LOAD IF INSTALLED ON A POWEREXEC NOTEBOOK PROBLEM When attempting to install the Adaptec APA 1460 PCMCIA SCSI card in an AST PowerExec using the card and socket services supplied with the card, EZ-SCSI cannot locate any SCSI adapters installed. If the ASPI drivers are loaded manually, the drivers will "hang" for a period of time, error and not load. CAUSE The CSALLOC.EXE file that currently ships with the Adaptec-supplied CardSoft ver. 3.1 is incompatible with the PowerExec notebook computer. SYSTEMS AFFECTED All AST PowerExec notebook computers. SOLUTION Download the self-extracting zip file CSFIX.EXE from AST's BBS (817) 230-6850, "Systems" file area. Place the file into the directory that contains the CardSoft (Typically C:\CARDSOFT) utilities. Change to the CardSoft directory and type CSFIX then press <Enter>. When prompted about overwriting files, answer yes. Running the CSFIX.EXE file will replace the CSALLOC.EXE and CSALLOC.INI files on your system. After rebooting, ensure that the APA 1460 card is installed, a SCSI device is attached and powered on, the SCSI device supplies its own termination power, and it is properly terminated. You may now run Adaptec's EZ-SCSI program to install your SCSI drivers.
