What This Diskette Does
-----------------------

The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system
program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions,
or expand functions. The supported models are as follows.

   - ThinkPad 570

(Note) This system program can only be installed in ThinkPad 570
       models.  It can not be installed in other models.

To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please
refer to the "Summary of Change" section.

To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System
Program" section.

 (Fix) - When using the modem while connected to a 570 UltraBase in battery
         mode, the system may hang.

 - (Fix) EEPROM error -188,189- can appear when the system is powered
         off during POST. (very rare)
 - (Fix) If WOL is disabled, the system still wakes up via network if
         AC is disconnected.
 - (Fix) If LCD off timer expires while resume password prompt is displayed,
         the LCD can not be resumed. This problem occurs only on Windows98.
 - (Fix) "Hibernation after Suspend" function does not work if SVP or HDP is
         installed.
 - (Fix) POP is not prompted for in the hibernation wakeup just after
         hibernation file creation.
 - (Fix) Hibernation wakeup can fail just after hibernation file creation
         when PAP or HDP is installed.
 - (Fix) Change the error message when the system is undocked while suspended.
 - (Fix) Battery charging parameters were changed to optimize battery function.

 - (Fix) Windows boot into safe mode intermittently.
 - (Fix) Windows NT system does not suspend when in AC mode

<1.07 - imet54ww>
 - (New) In the BIOS setup screen, the <+> and <-> control key assignments
         have been changed to the <F6> and <F5> keys, respectively.
 - (Fix) In Windows NT, without the system driver, CardBus cards in a
         docking slot do not work.
 - (Fix) If the numlock function of an external keyboard or keypad is
         enabled, the numlock of the internal keyboad is forced to the
         enable state also.
 - (Fix) In Windows 98, the LCD off timer and the HDD off timer do not
         execute at the correct time.
 - (Fix) Hibernation does not work with Windows 98 Second Edition
 - (Fix) PC card in a docking slot does not work after hibernation wakeup
         under WIN95 OSR2
 - (Fix) RPL does not work with the Auto 16/4 token ring credit Card adapter
 - (Fix) Resuming from the hibernation timer in Windows NT will cause the
         system to hang.
 - (Fix) System does not resume when receiving an incoming call
         through a PCMCIA modem card.


Updating System Program
-----------------------
Notes:
- You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system
  program.

- If your computer is attached to any kind of Docking station or port
  replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.

1.  Print these instructions or display on another computer.
2.  Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer.
3.  Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive
    and turn on the computer.
4.  Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the
    information that appears.
5.  Press the Esc key to return to the menu.
6.  Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on
    the screen.

    Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update
             has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE
             COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM
             BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off.
Do the following to make the changes effective. This is a change in the
System Program Update process compaired to versions prior to IMET52WW.

7.  Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from
    the diskette drive.
8.  Turn on the computer. The system enters IBM BIOS Setup Utility
    automatically.
9.  If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
10. Press F9 key.
11. Select "Yes" to load default configuration.


NOTE
- If, after installing BIOS level IMET54WW, you need to install a previous
  BIOS release, you may receive the following error message at step 8.

    After turning the computer on, you hear one long and two short beeps
    with the following post error is displayed:
      WARNING
       0251: System CMOS checksum bad - Default configuration used
      ERROR
       PS/2 mouse configuration error - device  disabled
      ERROR
       Resource Conflict allocation error static node # 08

  If this happens, simply turn the computer off and back on again, then
  proceed with step 9.

be viewed by invoking BIOS Setup Utility.
