INSTALLING IBM BOOKMANAGER BUILD FOR WINDOWS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are installing Build 2.3 over the top of Build 2.2 and
have made changes to the existing template Notebook and Rules files you should
make copies of these files. Build 2.3 installs a new set of templates
and will remove the old versions.

   1. Insert the BookManager Build CD in your CD-ROM drive.

   2. On the Windows Task Bar, click on Start->Run.

   3. In the Run window, type the location you're installing from (CD-ROM drive), plus the word setup.
For example, to install an English version of the product from a CD-ROM drive labeled g,
      type the following:

          g:\BuildWIN\enu\setup

   4. Select OK, and follow the online installation instructions.

  IMPORTANT:
- The Build template files are subject to change and
are therefore reinstalled in both a full product installation
and in a service upgrade. Because of this any changes made
to these template files should be saved to a new file name.
Doing so will ensure that the changes are not lost during
the installation. The templates that are shipped with Build are:

  Configuration Templates:
    - TempAmi.bcf
    - TempLwp.bcf
    - TempMkr.bcf
    - TempMs6.bcf
    - TempMsw.bcf
    - TempWp6.bcf
    - TempWpt.bcf

  Style Mapping Templates
    - TempAmi.bsm
    - TempLwp.bsm
    - TempMkr.bsm
    - TempMs6.bsm
    - TempMsw.bsm
    - TempWp6.bsm
    - TempWpt.bsm

 Source Document Templates
    - BookAmi.sty
    - TempAmi.sam
    - TempLwp.lwp
    - TempMkr.mif
    - TempMs6.doc
    - TempMsw.doc
    - TempWp6.doc
    - TempWpt.doc

WHATS NEW FOR BUILD 2.3 V0312
-------------------------------------------------

 - Build for Windows 2.3 supports pictures using the TIFF format.
However, the Softcopy Reader and many Web Browsers do not
sucessfully display TIFFs. Therefore Build will now convert
TIFFs to GIFs before incorporating them into the BOOk.

 - Build now supports Frame version 7.0 'book' files -- when saved
    in the MIF format.

 - Build now supports documents that use the "ISearchBy" technology.
    ref. Defect 2252

 - 'Spot' cross-references in Frame documents are now supported.
    ref. Defect 1937

 - Frame2000 cross-references are now recognized by Build.
    ref. Frame2000 PROB 020711 180911
    ref. Frame2000 PROB 020717 172048

 - Hot-links to external entities in Frame2000 documents -- for
example a web URL, are now supported.
    ref. Frame2000 PROB 020714 174713

 - Support for Lists in Frame2000 documents has been improved.
    ref. Frame2000 PROB 020715 111136

 - Only one session of Build can be run at a time. If the user
attempts to start a second session, Build will now prompt
the user to either wait for the first session to complete, or
    to terminate the first session.
    ref. Frame2000 PROB 020823 140718

 - The Frame2000 'Export to Bookmanager' utility creates a large
number of temporary files. These are now successfully removed
    after the BOOk is built.
    ref. Frame2000 PROB 021220 151707

A number of known defects are currently being worked on, for example:

 - The fully qualified name for a Lotus Word Pro source document, 8.3 or otherwise,
must be less than 60 characters. The fully qualified name includes the drive letter,
directory path, path separators, the name of the source document and the
    four character file extension(.lwp).
 - MS Word bordered paragraphs are not fully supported (Defect 1886)
 - 'Hard' page breaks in tables will split the table (Defect 1900)
 - Index entries in non-English versions of MS Word are not supported (Defect 1924)
 - Lists are poorly formatted inside table cells (Defect 1898)

INSTALLING ADDITIONAL DICTIONARIES
---------------------------------------------------------------

   2. Navigate with Windows Explorer to the dictionary directory(\langdict)
on the CD-ROM. If the drive letter for you CD-ROM is g:
          g:\langdict\

          Typically this directory is:

HOW DICTIONARIES ARE USED
-----------------------------------------------

Build for windows uses the Dictionaries to create an index for each Book you build.
This index allows BookManager to quickly find information for you.
Using the Dictionaries previously listed, you can Build books for word-processor
documents written in any of the supported languages.

INSTALLING THE INDEX UTILITY
---------------------------------------

  1. Insert the BookManager Build CD in your CD-ROM drive.

  2. On the Windows Task Bar, click on Start->Run.

  3. In the Run window, type the location you're installing from (CD-ROM drive),
plus the word setup. For example, to install an English version of the product
from a CD-ROM drive labeled g, type the following:

          g:\indexw22\setup

  4. Select OK, and follow the online installation instructions.

WHAT IS THE INDEX UTILITY
------------------------------------------

All BookManager books contain an index of all of the words in the book.
This book index is stored inside each book file, and is used when searching
for a text within a book. This is what allows BookManager to quickly locate
information for you. If you want to do a search for information
that resides anywhere in a bookshelf, a second type of index is used --
a bookshelf index. The bookshelf index is a combination of all of the book-level
indexes from all of the books on the bookshelf.

If you have a bookshelf index, searching across the bookshelf for a text string is
very fast, because BookManager only has to look through this one index file for
the information. Without a bookshelf index, each book being searched must be
opened and its book-index searched for the text string. This makes full text searching
across a bookshelf possible, but slower, without a bookshelf index. When IBM
ships books to you that are already organized into bookshelves, it includes the
bookshelf index. BookManager provides the capability for you to create your
own bookshelves. With a tool called BookManager Index Utility, you can create
a bookshelf index for your own customized bookshelves.

The BookManager Index Utility is a free utility, that can be copied within your
organization. It is available to run in VM, MVS and Windows. The VM and MVS versions
are shipped with the mainframe products. The Windows version is shipped with the
BookManager Build for Windows product, or can be downloaded from our web site.
