EC-362 (650-0831) Operation Faxback Doc. # 3489

Be sure to write down important data somewhere!

The numbers and letters you input are stores in memory as long as the
battery provides power. When the battery goes dead, or when you remove
it, everything in memory is erased. There is also the danger that you
might accidentally erase something by making a mistake. Because if this,
you should always write down names and phone numbers in an address book
or notebook as a back-up, just in case.

Important!

Before you use the EC-362 for the first time, be sure to perform the all-
reset operation.

Important Precautions

Never expose the unit to direct flame.

Avoid use and storage under temperature extremes. Do not place the unit
in direct sunlight, near windows, near a heater, or anywhere else where
it is subject to intense heat. Heat can lead to discoloration or
warping of the case, and can even damage internal circuitry.

Under very low temperatures, the display response might slow down or
fail entirely. This condition is temporary and correct operation should
  return under normal temperatures.

Avoid use and storage in areas subject to excessive moisture, dirt,
and dust. Direct contact with liquids and dust can damage internal
  circuitry.

Avoid dropping the unit and otherwise subjecting it to severe impact.

Never bend or twist the case.

Never try to take the unit apart.

Do not use a pen, pencil, or other sharp object to press keys.

To clean the exterior of the unit, wipe it off with a soft cloth
dampened in a weak solution of a mild neutral detergent and water.
Be sure to wring out any excess moisture from the cloth before wiping
off the unit. Never use benzene thinner, or any other volatile agent
to clean the unit. Doing so can remove the figures printed on the
case or otherwise damage the case finish.

The contents of these instructions are subject to change without
  notice.

Reset Operation

You can perform two kinds of reset operations. The all-reset operation
deletes all data in memory. The secret-reset operation deletes only
your password and the data in the secret memory area.

Important!

Be sure to perform the all-reset operation after purchasing the EC-362.

Do not use a very sharp pencil to press the RESET button. Doing so
  can damage the unit.

To perform the all-reset operation

1. Press OFF.

Note: Hold the Magic Diary in your hand when resetting it. Do not
press it against a flat surface.

2. Loosen the screw holding the battery compartment cover in place, and
    remove the cover.

3. Use a thin pointed object (like a paper clip or a mechanical pencil
whose lead is retracted) to press RESET. "RESET?" appears on the
    display.

4. To reset the unit and erase all data from its memory, press SET on
    the front of the unit.

If you want to quit the reset operation without erasing anything,
    press any key besides SET.

"NAME?" appears on the display after the reset operation is complete.

5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it in place with
    the screw.

To perform the secret-reset operation

1. Loosen the screw holding the battery compartment cover in place, and
    remove the cover.

2. Use a thin, pointed object (like a paper clip or a mechanical pencil
whose lead is retracted) to press RESET. "RESET?" appears on the
    display.

3. Press KEY, and "SCRTRESET?" appears on the display.

4. To reset the secret memory area and erase all secret data, press SET
on the front of the unit.

If you want to quit the reset operation without erasing anything,
    press any key besides SET.

"NAME?" appears on the display after the reset operation is complete.

5. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it in place with the
    screw.

Replacing Batteries

This unit is powered by a single CR2032 lithium battery (Radio Shack Cat.
No. 23-162). If the display becomes dim and difficult to read, it
probably means that you need to replace the battery.

To replace the Battery

1. Press OFF.

2. Remove the screw that holds the battery compartment cover in place
    and remove the cover.

3. Insert a thin, pointed object into the location marked A in the
illustration and remove the old battery.

4. Wipe off the surfaces of a new battery with a dry, soft cloth and
insert it into the unit making sure that its positive (+) side faces
up (so you can see it).

5. Perform the all-reset operation as explained on page 8.

6. Replace the battery compartment cover and the screw that secures it
    in place.

Battery Precautions

Incorrectly using batteries can cause them to burst or leak, possibly
damaging the interior of the unit. Note the following precautions:

Be sure that the positive (+) side of the battery is facing up (so you
can see it) when you install it in the unit.

Never leave a dead battery in the battery compartment. A battery can
leak and damage the unit if left in the battery compartment for long
  periods.

Remove the battery if you do not plan to use the unit for long periods.

In order to avoid damage caused by leaking battery fluid, be sure to
replace the battery at least once every five years.

WARNING: Never try to recharge the battery supplied with the unit.

Never expose batteries to direct flame or intense heat.

Keep batteries out of the reach of young children. Batteries can be
harmful or even fatal if swallowed. Consult a physician immediately for
emergency treatment.

Auto Power Off Function

Power will automatically switch off if you do not perform any key
operation for about six minutes. When this happens, press the PHONE/ON
Key to restore power.
